Summer refresh

The plants in The Fisheries have had a summer refresh! Some of our varieties have been with us for over six years now, and to bring them back to their best condition,  and to provide our members with the maximum benefits, they needed of a little bit of TLC.

Widely known for their health and psychological qualities, indoor plants are great to have around for a number of reasons. Firstly, they can help to reduce stress levels, improve moods, increase productivity and even improve our attention spans. On top of that, plants improve an environment’s air quality, by removing toxins and increasing oxygen. And needless to say, they very much enhance the look of our workspace!

So what did we do?

We topped up the plants with new, nutritious compost. The plants are regularly watered by the irrigation network which is fed by the rainwater-harvestion system, stored below the floor in our dining toom!

On the original walls of the warehouse we’re situated in, we modified cattle feeders to become the containers for our philodendron red congos (spot them by their enormous glossy, dark turquoise leaves with their red undersides), which love the warmth and sunshine that stream through the glass roof and windows.

In our hanging containers which break up the space around the community desks, you’ll find trailing philodendron scandens (heart-shaped leaves that tumble down like ivy), parlour palms (the jungle-esque fronds) and everyone’s favourite cheese plants, monstera deliciosa, which enjoy the lower natural light levels. We sourced beautiful, glazed pots for some of our larger varieties, howea forsteriana (like a larger version of a parlour palm) and the alocasia macrorrhiza (more commonly known as elephant ears!)

The benefits of plants

Looking after and nurturing our green friends is a pivotal part of the wider work we do of looking after our members. We hope you enjoy the company of the plants as much as we do and feel the benefits of having the greenery around you during your working day!
