“Hospitality is a word that's massively overused, but obviously it means to take care of people. And so I think the philosophy of The Fisheries is exactly that.” Hugo Warner, The Fisheries Founder. We hear from Hugo & Steve, the founders of The Fisheries, about how years spent in hospitality led two friends to create a different kind of workspace.
Firstly, every good idea starts somewhere. Usually with a problem to solve, a gap to fill, or something people didn't quite realise they needed yet. Coming from small-business backgrounds, we knew the reality of trying to do it all. When you're running a small business, you're often juggling everything at once, with a hundred things demanding your attention before you've even got to the actual work.

But we also knew hospitality. And we knew how different it feels when someone has really thought about the experience. The warm welcome at the front door. Those familiar faces. The local suppliers and fellow tradespeople who all play their part. That sense of being looked after, and being part of something bigger, was what we wanted to bring to The Fisheries. A workspace, yes. But with a little more soul.
We wanted to build something to help small businesses, through the eyes of hospitality. Creating a space that feels like more than just a desk, but a place that makes work feel better. Not a busy cafe or a soulless shared space with waiting room lighting, but a place where you can work, connect and socialise that feels like a home away from home. The feeling that, even if you're a one-person business, you're not necessarily doing it all on your own.
